10,000 rounds of ammunition stolen

Ten thousand rounds of ammunition have been stolen in a Waltham burglary. Sixteen Electrolux vacuum cleaners were also taken in the burglary of the Daily Freightways depot, at the corner of Mowbray Street and Wilsons Road, on Thursday evening. The total value of the stolen property was $5840. The ammunition was in two cartons of 5000 rounds each. One carton is Eley brand, the other contains “Club” brand long rifle ammunition. Colin Dalzell said the offenders entered through a comer of the roof. It appeared that they had made their way to the rear of the building along steel girders. They then removed chicken netting and dropped to the floor. The netting was replaced. They removed the cartoned vacuum cleaners, all “725” models, from a pallet. The ammunition was stored at the other end of the warehouse. Detective Senior-Sergeant Dalzell said they left through an electronically-operated roller door. •'
