Avonside has easy victory
The runaway competition leader, Avonside I, dropped only one match while easily beating Rlccarton in the latest round of the A grade inter-club table tennis.
The second-placed Landsdowne was taken to a 7-4 win over Dallington by the top grade’s only school pupil, Blair Lockhart, who won all of his singles in an aggressive manner.
On a good night for attacking players Peter de Boer proved too strong, carrying the night for Linwood with his three singles wins against Avonside HI.
Lyndon White, who also hits the ball solidly, did likewise for Avonside IV, which just nosed out Avonside 11, 65.
In A reserve grade, the former Canterbury repre-
sentative, Ken Cassidy, heads the race for the Harry Sargent Trophy with 23' wins from 24 matches.
His closest rivals are Graeme Simonds, who has 20 wins. The promising junior, Matu Johnston, has 18. The only unbeaten players in all grades with four rounds to play are Bob Loudon and Anthony Sandford in B grade and Nathan Astle in D grade.
