‘Unbelievable’ response

An “unbelievable” response to this year’s Templeton Hospital concert has meant that up to 2000 people have been turned away. Busloads of people from throughout Canterbury have flocked to the concert since its opening 10 days ago, said the hospital’s welfare officer, Mrs Evelyn Ritchie. About 3000 people would have seen the concert by the time it ends this evening. Mrs Ritchie said the hospital hall could handle only a limited number of seats and it was unfortunate that between 1000 and 2000 people who had inquired about seats had had to be turned away.

Concerts at Templeton had been running for almost 30 years, she said, and had always been popular.

But last week’s television programme had stimulated even more interest.
