Series to continue

The South Island two-year-old and three-year-old championships will be continued in the new season.

The three-year-old series will contain an additional qualifying race, and the two-year-old series will start earlier, the first event being scheduled for the Southland Racing Club’s meeting on November 21. The final race of the two-year-old series will be staged by the Canterbury Jockey Club on April 9, and wjll be worth $30,000.

The Canterbury Jockey Club will also present

two other races of the two-year-old series, the first of them on January 30, the other on April 4. The $30,000 final of the three-year-old championship will be at the Otago Racing Club’s meeting on April 25. The third and easily the most valuable race of the series will be the $200,000 Two Thousand Guineas at Riccarton on November 11. Ashburton will lead in the three-year-old series with the $lB,OOO John Grigg Stakes on September 1, and North Canterbury will follow with its $16,000 Labour Day feature event.
