Porter Heights opens

Porter Heights, the closest ski-field to Christchurch, will finally open for the season today with a snow base of 30cm. Uli Dinsenbacher, the manager of the field, said that conditions were excellent for expert skiers and beginners. While the slopes serviced by T-bar

No. 1 were groomed, skiing there was limited. Mr Dlnsenbacher said there were some exposed rocks but the general quality of snow was "really good.” Last year Porter Heights opened for the season at the end of June.
