Explosive fuel recovered

PA Wellington The owner of a Gisborne service station which mistakenly sold explosive high-octane fuel as kerosene on Thursday evening said yesterday he was confident the danger period was over. Mr Malcolm McLean, of Midway Service Station, said all but five litres of the Shellite fuel had been recovered after a combined operation involving

the police and Fire Service. He said the missing five litres could be the result of a mismeasurement, but he was still trying to get in touch with one of the 12 customers who bought the fuel, to make sure. The fuel had the potential to be highly explosive if used in kerosene heaters. Mr McLean said he hoped to have the matter cleared up finally today.
