Cheviot farmer wins Lincoln award

The 1987 Lincoln College Foundation Farmer of the Year award was won yesterday by Bob McFadden, of Cheviot, North Canterbury. The annual award was given this year for excellence in a big development project and carried a prize valued at $7500. Bob and Isla McFadden have spent 20 years developing an 800 ha sheep farm on the Hurunui River. They started with 1500 stock units, five paddocks or blocks and no house. They now have 7000 stock units and more than 80 per cent equity in their

showplace hill farm. The other finalists who gave presentations at the Lincoln College farmers’ conference yesterday were Robin Mundy, of St Helena Vineyard, Christ-, church: Andrew Orbell, of Clayton station, Fairlie; and Christopher Dawkins, of Waihopai Valley, Marlborough.
