Matches postponed; grounds withdrawn from use

The inclement Christchurch climate this week has resulted in a number of postponements and ground changes for sports today. The wet condition of a number of playing fields has forced councils to withdraw grounds from use.

The Canterbury Rugby Union has postponed all morning rugby which includes eighth grade and below. There have been two ground changes which affect sixth grade teams.

In section I, New Brighton A will play Shirley Boys’ High School at Shirley 8.H.5., and in section 11, New Brighton B will

play Suburbs B at Hoon Hay Park 4. Both matches are transferred from Bower Park and will be played at the same time. The Canterbury Rugby League has postponed all matches scheduled to be played at WoolstOn and Centennial Parks and Papanui Domain. In addition all schoolboy grades have been postponed, but the schoolboy representative matches at Bishopdale Park tomorrow against the West Coast will still be played; All junior soccer games today have been postponed but last evening the Canterbury Football

Association was endeavouring to ensure that all matches . down to ninth division would be played today. A third division match between the West Coast and Rangiora has been postponed and the early match at English Park this afternoon has been transferred. The new ground was not known last evening. If there was no further rain overnight the main game between Christchurch and Caversham might be played at English Park this afternoon, said the chairman of the C.F.A., Mr Colin Houston. The Canterbury Hockey Association has postponed

all matches except premier men which will be played on the all weather surface at Porritt Park. Senior, senior reserve and first grade matches in the Canterbury Women’s Hockey Association competitions will be played. All other grades have been postponed. Three ground changes have been made, and the matches will now be played at Nun week Park. The matches shifted to Nunweek Park are: Senior reserve — University v Sydenham; Hinemoa v Pegasus.
