Harrodsville comeback?
PA Hamilton Harrodsville, alias Otorohanga, hasn’t heard a word of legal hassles with Harrods of London about borrowing the top London store’s name for a while last year. While Harrods of London may pursue legal action against Harachs of Wellington, Otorohanga — the town liberally decorated with the Harrod name in gold lettering on a distinctive dark-green background for a week last June — has had no contact with lawyers representing the London store.
The sprouting of Harrods signs in Otorohanga was the local business association’s reaction to the London store’s leaning on other people, including a couple of New Zealand stores, using the name Harrods.
The president of the Otorohanga Business
Association, Mr ■ * Dale Williams, said, "We took legal advice before our 1986 promotion, and the feeling was that because our effort was just a oncer the fuss would blow over.” But was it just a oncer? Will the Harrods label sprout again in little Otorohanga? Mr Williams said there was “always the possibility” that the green and gold would bloom again in Harrodsville.
