Series of aces at Harewood
Golfers desirous of holing in one might try their luck at Harewood’s two courses. In the last five weeks there has been a glut of aces at Harewood, seven people playing the perfect shot. Robin Young set the ball rolling when he holed in one at the 191 m fourteenth hole on the old course on April 11. The next day David Lawrence had an ace at the second hole, of 140 m, on the new course. On April 18, B. Walls had a hole in one on the 126 m sixth hole on the new course and that day Paul Fitzgerald found the cup on the 145 m ninth hole on the same course. The run continued this month when D. Schugt was on the target at the 142 m eighth hole on the old course and the junior
vice-captain, Mike Stanley, got in the act on May 9 when he holed his tee shot at the new course’s second hole. The seventh went to Derek Inder, who had his ace at the eleventh hole, of 142 m, on the new course on May 16. Harewood club members are congregating in big numbers at the clubhouse in expectation of free drinks every weekend. Another achievement which may be without precedent was accomplished by Gerry Buzzard on May 16. He had five twos on his card, birdieing all of the new course’s par-3 holes. Buzzard, a 13 handicapper, had a gross score of 74 on the par-72 course for a net 61.
