N.Z. in Formula 3 series?

The possibility of New Zealand participating in a world-wide Formula 3 motor racing series cannot be discounted, if the proposal, as outlined in England recently by a racing entrepreneur with business interests in Hong Kong, gets beyond the talking stage.

Peter Wearing Smith has sounded out leading British Formula 3 racing teams about a series of at least seven races, that would take place at the end of the various F 3 championships, in Europe, the Far East, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

The series would be conducted independently of FISA, the world motor sports body, as far as marketing is concerned.

It is claimed that international television rights are already subject to an agreement with a motor sport specialist in TV coverage.

The proposal has apparently been made on behalf of a multi-national group which would be prepared to meet teams’ travelling expenses.

The British teams are reported to be very much in favour of the proposal as outlined. Such a deal could cost the sponsor anything between $l2 and $l5 million.
