Sovereign still popular
Although the automobile world is all excited about Britain’s latest Jaguar XJ6, the much older Jaguar Soveriegn VI2 is still a very popular saloon. Avis, the rental car firm, has just bought 40 Vl2 Sovereigns for use in its West German business class luxury car hire fleet.
First deliveries of the order, valued at more than the equivalent of $3 million, have been made by Jaguar’s West German subsidiary. Hire of a Sovereign VI2 for a day in Germany amounts to around $7OO, while the weekly rate with unlimited mileage is about $2BOO. The cars are targeted at the top executive market and each of them is equipped with an in-car telephone to keep captains of industry in touch with the business world. Coventry-based Jaguar Cars expects to continue producing the Vl2 Soveriegn and Daimler DoubleSix until 1990, for the company feels that the cars fill a very special niche in the luxury car market. “They will sell to those who want a Vl2 engine
for its power and smoothness, allied to traditional qualities, rather than just a means of squeezing more horsepower under the bonnet,” said Jaguar’s sales and marketing director, Roger Putnam.
