Red Cross medal for N.Z. nurse

PA _ Wellington A Wellington nurse, Ms Glenys Rodger-Checchi, has been awarded the coveted Florence Nightingale medal by the International Red Cross. She has worked mainly with war victims — helping refugees on the ThaiKampuchea border and as a theatre nurse with the war surgery team assisting wounded Afghanistan! refugees in Peshawar, Pakistan. The New Zealand Red Cross deputy secretarygeneral, Mrs Jan Smith, said Ms Rodger-Checchi had the rare ability to stay calm and cool in the s most adverse situations.'
