Q.E. II Trust president announced
PA Wellington The president of Federated Farmers, Mr Peter Elworthy, will be the president of the Queen Elizabeth II National Trust, the Minister of Conservation, Mr Marshall, announced. “Mr Elworthy’s strong identification with the farming community with which the National Trust works closely for the protection and enhancement of open space will be of great benefit,” he said. So far the trust has negotiated 530 protective covenants over privately owned significant landscape features. Two of these were on Mr Elworthy’s farm at Craigmore, South Canterbury, Mr Marshall said, He said the appointment of Mr Elworthy coincided with the transfer of responsibility for the trust to the Department of Conservation.
