Change of principal
From the beginning of the third term, (the new principal of Riccarton High School will be Mr Barry Maister, the present deputy principal of Christchurch Boys’ High School. Mr Maister will succeed Mr Terry Hitchings who will retire at the end of the second term.
Mr Maister, aged 38, will be the youngest principal in Christchurch. He began teaching in 1971 at Christchurch Boys’ High School, where he has served since, apart from a year on a visiting fellowship at Lincoln College in 1982.
Mr Maister, who has a bachelor of science degree with honours from Canterbury University, is a member of the Universities Entrance Board regional syllabus commit-
tee for biology and has co-authored a biology textbook and teachers’ handbook. He has “ represented New Zealand in hockey at four Olympic Games.
