PA Hamilton The deputy leader of the New Zealand Democratic Party, Mr Alasdair Thompson, has been confirmed as the party’s candidate for the Coromandel electorate. Mr Thompson polled second in the last election in the Hauraki seat which has been redrawn as Coromandel.

Mr Thompson, aged 40, an accountant, runs a motel-caravan park at Amodeo Bay, north of Coromandel, and is a Thames Coromandel District councillor. He has served on the Democrats’ national executive and has been vice-president and chairman of the 1981 national campaign committee.
