Entitlement review
The National Party is reviewing entitlement to benefits particularly the basic benefits and family care, plus rates of payment. No assurance could be given that no changes would be made to these, said the Opposition spokesman on Social Welfare, Mr Young (Nat., Waitotara).
But he has denied reports that the National Party was considering a proposal to cut benefits by a third. These matters would have to be considered, along with other Government expenditure, when the new National Government took office and had to clean up the Labour Government’s economic mess, Mr Young said.
