Wimbledon head quits
NZPA-Reuter London Dave Bassett, who masterminded Wimbledon’s rise from English soccer’s fourth division to the first in five seasons, resigned as the London club’s manager yesterday. Mr Bassett announced his
decision after a meeting with the managing director, Sam Hammam, only 48 hours after Wimbledon finished sixth at the end of its first season in division one. Mr Bassett said, “My reasons for taking this action are several.;. and must remain confidential.” ,
