Orion helps arrest poaching vessel
Wellington reporter
An R.N.Z.A.F. (Irion, requested by two small South Pacific island nations, has helped play a role in the arrest of an American fishing vessel. The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, said the Orion did surveillance ;! patrols in April which provided photographic evidence of poaching in waters round Kiribati and Tuvalu.
He said an American tuna boat, Tradition, based in San Diego, had now been arrested by Kiritati and themaster was being prosecuted.
Mr L£nge said there was clear evidence that the United States Government was embarrassed by the incursion, did not condone it and would not support the activities of the vessel.
