Two chances to impress

Wellington rugby league players will this week have two opportunities to impress the five national selectors before the New Zealand XIII is announced next Sunay or Monday.

A request by the New Zealand manager, John Bray, that the team be named earlier because of

possible transport difficulties during the school holidays did not meet with the approval of the selectors. Mike Knowles, the N.Z.R.L. executive director, said from Auckland yesterday that the selectors wished to see West Coast in action against Wellington at Lower Hutt next Sunday. They will be

in Christchurch tonight for the Canterbury-Well-ington fixture.

Comprising New Zea-land-resident players, the New Zealand XIII will play Queensland at Carlaw Park on May 24. Queensland will complete its short visit to this country against Bay of Plenty at Rotorua on May 27.
