Slender cricket win
I.C.A. scored a slender onerun victory over the highly rated Howzat A team in the first round of the General Finance indoor cricket super league. The Howzat team included four New Zealand players. It was the first time it had been beaten at home in three years. The match was played for the Lion Brown Challenge Shield. Teams from both the Indoor Cricket Federation and Indoor Cricket Arenas are now contesting the super league. In the women's A grade competition an I.C.A. team
made up of Canterbury outdoor representative cricketers narrowly beat Howzat, 105-102. Results: Men’s A grade: Howzat 81 lost to I.C.A. 82; Howzat B 51 lost to I.C.A. 78; Sockbum 96 lost to Papanui 119. Women’s A grade: Howzat TO2 lost to I.C.A. 105; Howzat 81 lost to I.C.A. B 4; Pav-Am lost to Johnston’s. Men’s B grade: Howzat 134 beat I.C.A 100; Sockburn 133 beat Papanui 84; Johnston’s 161 beat Pav-Am 82. Masters: Howzat 141 beat I.C.A. 51; Sockbum beat Papanui by default.
