Callaghan to be knighted
NZPA-AP London The former British Prime Minister, James Callaghan, will be knighted by the Queen for service to the nation, Buckingham Palace announced yesterday. Mr Callaghan, who was the Labour Prime Minister from 1976 to 1979, would be invested with the Most Noble Order of the Garter at Buckingham Palace on June 15, the palace said. The award is the highest order of English knighthood and is limited to 24, holders at any one time.
Upon being knighted, Mr Callaghan, aged 75, will be known as Sir James, and his wife, Lady Audrey.
