Department of Internal Affairs DEPARTMENT OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS CHRISTCHURCH REGIONAL OFFICE PRESENTLY the Department’s Passport Issuing Office in Christchurch is under considerable pressure through a higher than normal number of applications being made to it. Intending travellers are advised that it is now taking 28 calendar days from the date of receipt of a correctly completed Passport Application, for a passport to be issued. The Department apologises for the time now being taken, but has no control over the external factors driving that. TO HELP YOU AS A TRAVELLER PASSPORT FIRST - TRAVEL SECOND Intending first time travellers should make application for, and actually receive their passport before entering into firm arrangements for travel. Intending travellers holding a passport should check that their passport will be valid for the entire period of travel and return to New Zealand. If not, application should be made for, and a new passport actually received, before entering into firm arrangements for travel. Passports are normally valid for 10 years. It could be costly if travel has to be delayed through not having a valid passport by the expected departure date. To make an application for a passport to meet an Imminent departure date is not a case for the urgent issue of a passport to meet that date. Remember, Passport first, travel arrangements second, can save anxiety for you the traveller. Telephone 790-290 Telegrams and Cables "Internal.” Telex CVDXCH NZ4778 P.O. Box 1308, CHRISTCHURCH, N.Z.
