Strong field for Silver Plough
Sixteen ploughmen from the South Island will travel to Rotorua next month to take part in the thirty-second New Zealand Mobil Silver Ploughing Championship.
The contest will be held on 33ha of Ngati Whakaue tribal land between Rotorua city and its airport, according to the New Zealand Ploughing Association’s publicity officer, Mr John Rawlinson, of Methven. An unusual sight in the Rotorua area is a paddock of flourishing oats which will be the venue for the stubble ploughing competion on May 15. Grassland ploughing will take place the next day. The championship is being organised by the Reporoa-Rotorua Plough-
ing Association in conjunction with the national ploughing association. The winner and runner-up will take part in the World Ploughing Contest in the Amana Territories, lowa, United States.
