PA Wellington Two petitions were presented when Parliament sat at 2 p.m. yesterday. Mr Derek Angus (Nat, Wallace) presented the petition of John Hall McKenzie and 17 others calling for the Government to give urgent' priority to the Aparima floodprotection scheme, including Otautau, as the plans how met and exceeded the 10 per cent rate of return required by the Treasury. Mr Angus also presented a similar petition from Wendy Alice Ryan and 19 others. Ministers answered 13 questions. The Speaker, Dr Wall, declined an Opposition application for a snap debate on the laying off of 38(F Watties workers in Gisborne and Hastings. The Trade and Industry Amendment Bill was given a third reading. Members'then debated the' second reading of the Gaming and Lotteries Amendment BUI. The Gaming and Lotteries Amendment BUI was given a second reading on a free vote, 44-16. Members debated the .second reading of the Maori Affairs Amendment BiU until the House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. The debate continued when the House resumed after dinner at 7.30 p.m. The bill was given a second reading. . Members then debated the committal stages of the Immigration BUI. The bill was passed through its committal stages. Thar House rose at 10.30 p.m. ■
