Wildlife officers form consultancy company
PA Wellington Former senior Wildlife Service officers say they have decided to form their own wildlife consultancy company. Mr David Pike, former assistant director of environmental matters for the Wildlife Service, said he had been mulling over the idea for a few years. Declining a position in the new Department of Conservation, which has taken over wildlife responsibilities, meant he was able to do something
about it. He, with three others, has formed a company called Wildlife Services New Zealand, Ltd. Its aim was to provide an independent evaluation and reporting service for developers, industry, local bodies and Government agencies, he said yesterday. The four of them had experience and expertise that would be difficult to find in other New Zealand organisations, he said.
One of the four is Mr Ralph Adams, former
director of the Wildlife Service. The other two are Mr Russell Morrison, former executive officer of the service and Ms Lynn Harris, former assistant director, information services. A New Zealand scientist, Sir Charles Fleming, will be the company’s principal scientific advisor. As well there would be a corps of experienced freelance people available for any specialisation that might be necessary, Mr Pike said.
