Solid workout for Bonecrusher tomorrow
NZPA staff correspondent Nick Brown Sydney Bonecrusher will have his first solid workout tomorrow since his poor showing in the Rawson Stakes. The champion gelding is being treated for a minor hind-quarter problem, but trainer Frank Ritchie has no doubts about his fitness for Saturday’s Tancred Stakes (2400 m at Rosehill. “To this point everything seems satisfactory with the horse, especially his blood count which has kept improving,” Ritchie said.
“But when he is pressured tomorrow I’ll get a more reliable guide to how he is firing.” Bonecrusher’s Tancred Stakes rider, Gary Stewart, has been engaged to ride Injustice in the sAustl million Golden Slipper Stakes (1200 m on Saturday. Injustice, a fast-finish-ing third in the Todman Slipper Trial on March 28, is trained by Frank Ritchie’s brother Gary, who expects the colt will acquit himself well in the Slipper. “He’s going to be among the strong finishers so he can figure in the
prizemoney — how prominently I’m not sure,” Gary Ritchie said. Injustice ranks 12th in qualifying order for the Slipper, with earnings of $Au5t76,543 ($93,980). The acceptors and barriers for the 16-strong field will be declared today. Queensland’s Minister for Racing, Russ Hinze, has confirmed Waverley Star as a starter in the Tancred Stakes, according to a report yesterday.
