Mr Tambo’s visit
Sir, —The imminent visit of the president of the African National Congress, Mr Tambo, to this country raises questions on what South Africa would be like under black rule. Would it be any less "racist”? Neighbouring Zimbabwe should give forewarning of the life under Mr Tambo’s dream. A news item announced that Mr Robert Mugabe plans to abolish the 20 white seats in his Parliament. There has been no sudden rush of protest from Western Governments. Are we so overawed by black violence and political blackmail that we are scared of declaring Mr Mugabe’s move “racist.” Mr Mugabe’s proposals highlight the hypocrisy of black Africa’s stand against socalled “racist” South Africa. The pot is calling the kettle black and we are stupid enough not to take heed. When will our judgment concerning “racism,” “human rights,” and political repression become honest, just, and impartial? — Yours, etc., D. S. DUNCAN. April 3, 1987.
