Polytechnic centre open
The $2 million John Hercus Centre at Christchurch Polytechnic was officially opened by the Governor-General, Sir Paul Reeves, yesterday. The centre is named after Mr John Hercus, who has been on the Polytechnic staff for 20 years and its director since 1974. The centre, in Coventry Street, houses the registry, directorate, council room, computing resource centre, and staffroom. The opening ceremony was conducted in English and Maori. A sculpture by Fred Graham of the Koroki Raukawa tribe is at the main entrance of the building.
