Education Vacancies UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY MACMILLAN BROWN CENTRE FOR PACIFIC STUDIES DIRECTOR APPLICATIONS are invited for the above position from suitably qualified applicants with research experience in Pacific societies and cultures. The appointment will be for a term of up to five years to be negotiated. The MacMillan Brown Centre is currently being established, and the appointee, its first Director, will be expected to promote the development of the Centre In co-operation with an advisory committee. It is anticipated that the Centre will actively encourage research, teaching and publication related to the Pacific, organise public lectures, conferences, and seminars, and appoint visiting fellows engaged in research. The annual budget of the Centre will be about $250,000. The salary will be within the range $37,000 to $59,000 per annum on the scales for Senior Lecturer to Reader. THE UNIVERSITY OF AUCKLAND New Zealand SENIOR LECTURESHIP (MEDICAL) IN MEDICINE (Department of Medicine, School of Medicine) THIS position will be held at Green Lane Hospital, one of four major teaching hospitals associated with the School of Medicine. The appointee will be expected to provide academic leadership at the Hospital and supervise clinical students attached to Green Lane Hospital. There are two other academic appointments in Medicine at Green Lane Hospital, one in Cardiology and the other in Respiratory Medicine. The appointee, while having clinical responsibility for patient care In General Medicine, should have In depth competence and research interest in one discipline within Internal Medicine. Applicants should hold a medical qualification registrable in New Zealand and have a higher qualification in Internal Medicine acceptable to the Medical Council of New Zealand. The possession of a higher academic qualification in science or medical science would be desirable. Applicants must have an Interest in and be prepared to maintain a high standard of expertise in General Medicine and will be expected to pursue some special interest in a branch of Internal Medicine, and undertake research. Applicants should have substantial experience and competence in research in a discipline within Internal Medicine and have had experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate medical students. An interest in medical education as a discipline would provide added strength to an application. Clinical responsibilities of 5/ 10 at Greenlane Hospital will be required. Commencing salary will be established within the range $NZ52,600-$66,400 per annum.
