Balmain has early lead
Only Balmain has won both of its matches after two rounds of the Sydney rugby league premiership. Also unbeaten, with one win and a bye, are Canberra and Eastern Suburbs.
The defending champion, Parramatta, and two other strong semi-final contenders, North Sydney and South Sydney, are the only sides to have been beaten twice. • Two Kiwis contributed three of the five tries when North Sydney beat Western Suburbs, 24-6, an a National Panasonic Cup first-round match on Wednesday evening.
Clayton Friend touched down twice and Mark Graham once in an impressive display by Norths at Leichhardt Oval.
