Sir,—That “the Russians are in Afghanistan as allies not invaders” is a statement of fact. It is not, as Forbes Taylor would have it, a sad commentary on my “total unwillingness to admit” the nonsensical propagandist fictions that he trots out in his letter of March 4. Any atrocities committed in Afghanistan are more than likely the handiwork of the mercenary, cut-throat, counter-revolutionary thugs operating from Pakistan and Iran, who are supported by. the United States, China, Iran and Saudi Arabia. On the “International” page of “The Press” of February 26, under the headline, “Afghan peace talks resume,” confirmation of this is freely admitted. It has never been a secret and no serious student of world affairs Could be ignorant of these facts.—Yours, etc., M. CREEL. March 4, 1987.
