Lake Kaniere triathlon

Wayne Gladstone, of Greymouth, second in the previous two years in the Lake Kaniere scenic triathlon, won at his third attempt on Saturday in recora time. He returned a time of Ihr 57min 43s in the individual section, which was 2min 19s ahead of John McKenzie, of Timaru, who won last year and was second in the recent “longest day” event. Third placing was taken

by Greg Luxton, a former Greymouth policeman in 2:0.29. The first woman home was Joanne Ovens, of Greymouth in 2:18.36. The teams event was won by Arthur Gempton, Daryl Symons, and Andy Macßeath, the first from the West Coast and the others from Canterbury, in 1:49.7. The women’s teams event was won by Judy Strange, and Leonie and Annette Guerin.
