The basic role of the appointee will be to take responsibility for the state of buildings and physical plant in a defined sector of the University. A wide range of maintenance and alteration work is involved. Regular tasks will include consultations with building users, production of drawings and schedules, elementary measurement and estimating, supervision of contractors and University trades activity, materials ordering, correspondence and specifications. Building Sector Officers have opportunities to assist each other in specialised tasks if particular experience and qualifications are present. Because of the highly serviced nature of many University buildings, knowledge of mechanical and electrical services is valuable.
