Death on underground rail line
NZPA London Two men who tried to make their way home by crawling along a London Underground railway line did not realise the trains had a low ground clearance, a Coroner’s Court was told.
Frank Randles was found dead on the track near Clapham South station and his friend, Andrew O’Reilly, was badly injured in the incident.
The men had intended to lie between the rails if a train came along, and let it pass over them, but Mr Randles, who was a British Rail train driver, did not know that underground trains had a much lower ground clearance of only 25cm, the Court was told.
