Kawerau mill to shed 117
PA Wellington Restructuring at the Kawerau pulp and paper mill will mean the loss of 117 salaried staff-jobs, said the Tasman Pulp and Paper Company’s managing director, Mr Garry Mace, yesterday. The 117 positions would go as part of a major restructuring of staffing. “Everyone in the company has known that in .comparison with mills of similar size and type, we have been carrying about twice the number of sal-
aried staff,” Mr Mace said.
"However, while the need to restructure is urgent, we still intend to implement the changes with the • least -possible disruptions to both our employees and to the community.” Mr Mace said that the changes related to the commercial need to restructure and were not a reflection on the quality of the individuals involved.
He said the company would offer all salaried staff either voluntary early retirement or voluntary severance packages, and hoped to complete the restructuring with minimum disruption to everyone. „
