Death petition

Ashburton reporter

An Ashburton-based petition to bring back the

death penalty for serious physical or sexual crimes has attracted 4500 signatures.

Mrs Gloria Dellow, of Ashburton, started the petition late last year. She said the half-completed petition was to be sent to the member of Parliament for Ashburton, Mr Rob Talbot, yesterday. It would be sent again in its completed form in April.

Mrs Dellow said most of the signatures came from Ashburton, Christchurch, and Timaru. She collected them herself in Ashburton, and had helpers in the bigger centres. Mrs Dellow hoped to get many more signatures

on the petition by April, when it would be presented to Parliament by Mr Talbot.
