‘Lucky Break’
By
STEPHANIE LEE,
aged 12, of Christchurch.
"Number Ten!” the chocolate wheel man yelled. “That’s me,” I shouted as I collected by turkey. That was another prize to add to my collection.
Luck had been with me lately. I had won a turkey, two chickens, a ham and a nice bottle of wine on this chocolate wheel.
Yesterday I had won a free dinner at Noahs, and the day before that I had won a chocolate cake on a raffle.
A man looked at my turkey and said you win so much why don’t you try a Golden Kiwi. I decided to try. I bought a Golden Kiwi “Change of Luck” ticket and hid it. A week later I checked the paper. Number 131313 I thought, no it’s not here, not even $5. Oh well. Suddenly I heard a crash. I ran to the kitchen and found the cat licking the turkey and the wine bottle smashed on the floor.
The whole turkey had to be thrown out.
The next day was dad’s birthday and we didn’t have to start cooking the chickens till late.
When we opened the freezer we discovered that it hadn’t been working and all the meat was bad. Nothing was going right. I went upstairs and looked at my free dinner ticket. It had expired yesterday. Never again will I buy a Golden Kiwi “Change of Luck” ticket.
