'Ice-skating’
By
Pascale van Breuzel
aged 14 of Kaiapoi
A few day ago Paul M, Yvette J, Paula B, Valerie V. 8., and I went iceskating. Result:
After having fallen down about one million times, and after having knocked down roughly 10 people. I got the hang of dodging them. Once I zoomed straight into an old man, and sent him whizzing off so fast, I’m surprised he didn’t
land somewhere out in the South Pacific Ocean.
Anyway we girls were having cool fun following all these people around the skating rink.
Gee some of the skaters are fast!
I was huffing and puffing my way behind this elegant young man, when I lost track of him and zoomed straight on, crashing into the little wall, and nearly landing on someone’s table.
I did succeed in knocking over a cup of coke, and skidded off real fast.
But then there are the slow ones too, and my oh mightly are they boring! I nearly fell asleep following them. But then some of them were quite funny, they went around doing the splits and stumbling all over the place, into people.
Once this old lady came whizzing, past Paula and me, and tripped over, she toppled down, clinging so hard on Paula’s skirt, she nearly pulled it down.
Then the five of us followed this boy about our age, and he didn’t realise until he turned around and saw all of us speeding after. I think he looked quite delighted, because he started going faster and faster and then he went so fast he practically flew over the wall and landed, splat, next to his mum, who was probably wondering how he managed to drop from the sky like that.
Upon having an icecream, Paula dropped a great blob of hers on the counter, and set me off laughing like a maniac and yelling, “Look what she did, look what she did.”
And believe me, quite a number of people turned to stare!
