Dunedin to pay $800,000

PA Dunedin The Dunedin City Council works committee agreed last evening to hand over $BOO,OOO from the Dunedin Airport accounts to the Minister of Civil Aviation, Mr Prebble, but decided to withhold a further $694,000 which he requested. The committee adopted a recommendation that the Minister be paid $886,561 from the Crown’s current account balance as he requested in a letter to the committee chairman, Cr B. K. Arnold. The letter was signed by Mr Rodger as Acting Minister of Civil Aviation. In addition to the first sum the letter sought a further $694,000 as the Crown’s half-share of the air development capital reserve. A report to the committee said council executives believed the Minister had no authority to demand half of this reserve and recommended no payment should be made.
