‘Das Boot'

Sir,—Concerning the TV movie “Das Boot” and the overdubbing of English, I felt more worried over the truth of that English. The movie was set in 1941-42 at the height of the wolfpack, the gap in the" Atlantic, major radar and sonar inventions, and also at a time when a tl-boat ran surfaced most times. Yet these men, the pick of the navy, were portrayed as disliking Admiral Raeder and Admiral ; Doenitz, almost to the point of hating their leadership. These German folk .heroes were well fed;— only the best food for U-boats and had a well-loved and famous World War I U-boat captain as commander. He was only too; helpful to his men, even to the point of not caring about radio silence. During the war 781 U-boats i were destroyed; 70 per cent of all officers and men were lost, not a figure to show they had ho faith in their leadership early on in the war. Can I not sit down and watch a truthful story about the war or did we, in fact, lose the“war and we have to be spoon-fed a load of rubbish?— Yours, etc..
