Kumara water clean
Greymoiitb reporter An analysis of the Kumara water supply has found no trace of poison. The senior officer of the Health Department at Greymouth, Mr Vem Newcombe, said that the samples sent to the D.S.I.R. at Gracefield in Wellington showed no sign of either paraquat or diquat. Both weedkillers were said to have been sprayed within the catchment area of the water supply. A Dillmanstown goldminer, Mr John Acker, complained about the possible damage to the supply. The Westland County Council asked the department for an analysis of the water; 1 and this was taken two days after the spraying. Mr Newcombe said that the laboratory tests were such that it was like trying to find one.litre,of, liquid in 100 million litres of water. There were no detectable amounts of spray in the sample. “While understanding the concern of residents regarding the safety of their water, I feel that they have been unnecessarily worried by people rushing into print before checking all the facts,” he said._____
