Bissell breaks riding record
Del Bissell (Blenheim), riding Waimeha Rasul, a purebred Arab, shattered the old record for the 160 km in the Homebush South Island championship two-day endurance ride during the weekend.
In a race for the line Bissell beat Wayne Parnham, winner of the previous two Homebush endurance rides, by just two seconds. Her time of lOh 3min 45s was more than 17min better than Parham’s old record of lOh 21 min.
The Jones and Hoskinsponsored competition consisted of four events, three of which were, won by women.
Conditions were ideal for the events in which riders
came from as far north as Motueka and Blenheim and as far south as Fairlie.
