Levels attracts elite

Timaru reporter

More than 100 of New Zealand’s top motor-cyclists will line up at the Levels raceway this week-end to contest the fourth round of the New Zealand motor-cycle championships. Timaru riders are already among the front runners in the championships and two brothers, Grant and Allan Ramage, seem certain to figure prominently in this week-end’s racing since they are acquainted with the

tight Levels circuit . Alan Ramage is in third place in the senior production series, while his brother, Grant, is handily placed among the leaders in the formula-one class.

Two Wellington riders, Robert Holden and Bob Toomey, are leading the senior production and for-mula-one series respectively and like the Ramage brothers are both on Suzuki GX 1100 s. One other Timaru .rider, Lex Westoby, on a 125,

is a strong contender in the 125 cc class and he is expecting some tough competition from Dave Moore, of Christchurch, on an exotic MBA and Steven Clegg, of Wellington, on a Honda RCS 125. The Levels circuit is looked upon as a "rider’s circuit” where the fastest machines are not always first. Unofficial practices begin at Levels today, followed by preliminary races tomorrow. The championship races will be held on Sunday.
