Lange’s return

PA Wellington The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, will go motorracing again on Sunday. Mr Lange will compete in two races for Ford Laser TX3 cars on the Manfeild circuit at Feilding, where the third round of the.intemational singleseater championship is being held. Mr Lange raced for the first time at Pukekohe last Sunday in similar races, finishing last each time but not far behind the regular Laser championship contenders. The Manfeild promoter, Rob Lester, said after seeing the Prime Minister at Pukekohe that “given the very limited time he’s

had, I’d say he’d become a very hard charger indeed if he ever got into it seriously.” He said Mr Lange was driving in a class with a high-calibre field. “Four of those drivers are among the top bracket of New Zealand saloon car drivers.” The Prime Minister is competing on a Motorsport Association provisonal licence without the experience of two lower level race meetings, which is normally required to compete in national events. Mr Lester said he had authorised that as chairman of the M.A.N.Z. racing commission, with the approval of the executive.
