Knight family dominant
The Knight family, of Christchurch, dominated the third heat of the New Zealand Grand Prix power boat championship at Frankton Arm, Queenstown, yesterday. After an indifferent second heat on Monday when both Knights had to withdraw because of mechanical faults, both father and son virtually outclassed their rivals yesterday. P. R. Knight (the father), driving his world re-cord-holder, The Boss, narrowly defeated his son, P. G., and C. R. C. Latimer Lodge, with Red Express (Steve Hughes, Wellington) a distant third. P. R. Knight now leads the over-all competition with 31 points and his son is next with 29 points. There is a big gap back to John Diamante, Marlborough, driving Sudden Impact, with 19 points, followed by Hughes on 16 points, then Warwick Jones (Auckland, The Baron), 14 points, Leslie Dakin (Wellington, Wild Care) seven points, and Graham Radcliffe (Marlborough, Radcliffe marine) six points.
