Sick Russian seaman flown to Wellington
PA Wellington A sick Russian seaman was flown by helicopter to Wellington Hospital last evening. The man, whose name was not available, fell ill aboard the 3000 ton Soviet fishing vessel Darvin. A doctor aboard diagnosed acute appendicitis and Mr Peter Button’s
rescue helicopter was called in through the marine division of the Ministry of Transport. An R.N.Z.A.F. Orion from Whenuapai pinpointed the trawler’s position about 200 km east of Wellington. Mr Button’s helicopter flew directly to the scene and his son, Clive, winched the man aboard in 10 minutes.
