Advertisement Madness grips manager Concern in Ashburton this week centred on the state of the Hotel Ashburton manager, Bruce Eccles. - Not long in Mid-Canter-bury from Wellington to manage the district’s topline hotel, Mr Eccles has slashed the price of hotel rooms to $49 per night during January. Even with with GST on top of that, the price is bordering on the ridiculous considering that the tariff for two adults and two children is usually more than $BO. For readers not familiar with the Hotel Ashburton we are not talking about just any hotel. The Hotel Ashburton has built up an international reputation for its luxury accommodation, and amenities. It boasts a covered pool (the roof even slides back!) sauna, spa, tennis courts, the works. The fully licensed Clearwater Restaurant is the best in the county, and has the most comprehensive and competitively priced wine list for many a mile. The hotel also has Chloes, the bistro family restaurant where you choose your own salad from an excellent selection. “I don’t want to be lonely,” was Mr Eccles only comment on slashing prices before staff whisked him away. While there is plenty to do at the hotel itself, there are many attractions in Mid Canterbury which are an easy drive away. Mr Eccles is also offering barbecue packs and picnic lunches to take on a day trip. Mr Eccles is under observation and his condition is described as wavering between comfortable and unstable. A full recovery is not expected for about three weeks so book quickly. Telephone Ashburton 83059. T
