Skippers seek paint
NZPA staff correspondent London The i America’s Cup skippers, : Chris Dickson and Dennis Conner, are vying for a Swedish spray-on chemical paint which could provide a "crucial technological advantage” ini their coming races, according to London’s "Sunday Telegraph” newspaper. A special underwater finish developed for the hull of the eliminated British boat White Crusader is being offered to the highest bidder and the New Zealanders and Americans are: negotiating for its exclusive'■ use, the newspaper said.
It said that the paint could be “manna from heaven” for Conner, because it could bring the improvement he has been seeking in Stars and Stripes’ light-weather performance.
The paint was invented by a Swedish scientist and developed in secret by th£. British syndicate. ■■ T
