B team comes from behind

Canterbury B came from behind on the first innings to score a seven-wicket win over Auckland B on the last day of their three-day cricket match at Hagley Oval yesterday. After dismissing Auckland for 117 in its second innings, Canterbury needed 163 to win in 165. minutes and 20 overs, reaching the target with 70 minutes to spare. A second-wicket stand of 86 between Blair Hartland and Max Bremner carried Canterbury to within 73 runs of victory, and the task was completed in rousing fashion by David Farfant and Mark Priest, whose , unbeaten partnership of 60 featured the most aggressive batting of the match. Farrant’s 29 came from 36 balls, Priest’s 33 from 31

balls. Hartland narrowly missed his second half-cen-tury for the match, his 49 from 128 balls following a marathon innings of 60 from 212 balls in the first innings. A large measure of credit for Canterbury’s success was owed to- its two left-ann spinners, Priest and Andrew Nuttall, who used the dusting pitch to good effect in Auckland’s second innings.
